Hello There !
If you’re not living under the rock, then you must’ve also indulged into the Snapchat Controversy which took the social media by storm. Be it the meme, or the alleged tweets which have taken a revolutionary turn and now turned the whole country against Snapchat. But do you really believe it’s true and for the most, uninstalling the app would do the job? So, here’s a quick breakdown on the Snapchat CEO vs India Controversy.
To all those who aren’t aware of what happened recently, the Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel gave a statement that the app is not for poor countries like India or Spain, which instantly hurt the sentiments of all the Patriotic generation online.
People started uninstalling the application and shared posts related to boycotting the Snapchat App, and its services furthermore. If this wasn’t enough, people also rated the app as 1 Star which reduced the app rating from 4.3 to 4.0 drastically. People started to file petitions against this social media app, urging the PMO, Modi ji to ban Snapchat from India.
Not only this, Snapdeal became the victim to this fight because of its name conflict and some smart Indians who thought that Spiegel also owns this E-Commerce giant as the name relates to it, but who we are to judge.
Within 24 hours of the news circulation, a shocking number of 1.7 million Snapchat users uninstalled the App with a slick satire, as ” The app is for the rich, so we Indians can’t use it.”
But here’s the another side to this story. It wasn’t really the statement of the Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel. It was a statement from a former employee Anthony Pompliano, who filed a lawsuit against the company for distribution of user data and depositories. For the time being, Snapchat has denied that the statement is absolutely false.
All in All, it’s the first time I’ve witnessed the people to unite on this big scale with everyone following the memes, and the timeline posts. So, what is your opinion on this ? Do comment your thoughts. Also, if you’ve uninstalled Snapchat, please mention a logical reason behind this.
